Thinking Of Working In IT Sales?

The actual job role of an IT sales professional is often separated out into pre-sales, sales and post sales. 

The pre sales role often involves giving detailed advice about specifications and helping customers match up their needs to their hardware and software choices. Often this means giving demonstrations on products before a sale is made. 

The sales role involves negotiating prices and packages in order to benefit the customer and make a good profit. 

The post sales element of the role includes identifying and fixing any issues that may creep up and helping the customer maintain their hardware and software efficiently. Training is also a feature of post sales quite often. 

The role of an IT sales expert requires the employee to be extremely good at communicating and mixing with people, you should be good at talking be it face to face, on the phone or over the internet. 

Activities you will typically carry out include identifying customer needs and applying your in depth product knowledge in order to find the right products for them. 

You will also need to make sure that the quality element is always there as you will want to build and maintain relationships with your customers. 

Cold calling will also be a big part of your role; you will be responsible for generating new business leads. 

Delivering and planning presentations to customers is essential, therefore you will have to be confident in your product knowledge. 

You will need to be aware of changes that occur with software, hardware and other IT applications. 

Being good at time management is essential as you will often have to plan your own schedule and manage your time productively. 

The main aim of an IT sales role is to hit and exceed any targets given to you. If you fail to do this then you will probably not suit the role very much. 

The actual role of an IT sales person can be extremely varied and having a sincere passion for technology is essential.
